Verde Local is a food retailer from Moldova. Currently it has 83 stores and employs more than 4,000 people. The assortment includes over 9,000 SKU. In 2021, in order to support the intensive development and growth, Verde Local decided to develop a new strategy for long-term digital transformation. The strategy included updating the existing demand forecasting software and merchandise management system
Challenges & solutions
Verde Local used an existing out-of-the-box solution to forecast demand. The forecasts were 30% accurate. This resulted in lower sales, increased inventory and lost profits. The average days sales of inventory was 27 days. Due to overstocking, on-shelf availability did not exceed 50%. All these problems had to be solved by implementing a custom demand forecasting solution
Our custom demand forecasting solution was supposed to accomplish three issues: increase inventory utilization ratio, improve the accuracy of demand forecasts, and increase the average on-shelf availability. As the result, overall demand forecasting accuracy improved to 90%, days sales of inventory decreased from 27 days to 18 days, and on-shelf availability increased to 75% across the entire store chain. As a result of the new solutions, Verde Local was able to increase revenue and open 15 new stores in six months
