In 2018, we observed a surge in demand for Learning Management System (LMS) platforms within the EdTech industry. It became evident that many of these products bore striking similarities. The most common requests we received were for features such as video calls, chat functionality, class scheduling, and comprehensive statistical and analytical tools. Consequently, we made the strategic decision to craft our own distinctive and multifaceted EdTech solution. This development took into consideration prevailing market trends while incorporating unique features that set our product apart.
Challenges & solutions
With the growing number of users, our platform needed to handle hundreds of concurrent calls and recordings while maintaining performance.
We implemented a microservices architecture with WebRTC technology, leveraging Kurento and Coturn for efficient audio and video transmission. Lambda functions ensured auto-scaling. The platform supports 200-300 calls simultaneously with the recording option enabled and 800-1000 calls without recording.
Efficiently setting up and managing a complex infrastructure
AWS CloudFormation was employed for Infrastructure as Code (IaC), while SQS message brokers enabled asynchronous communication between microservices, facilitating smooth operation in a serverless environment.
